Join us on Tuesday, February 13th at 6pm at Hammer & Stain Nashoba Valley (586 Mass Ave, Acton, MA) for a GALENTINE'S DAY workshop with a special guest instructor Jennifer of Jennifer's Handmade Soaps making 1lb of soap. AND you get to keep your mold to create more beautiful soap in the future!

Artist Statement
Jennifer has been making soap and bath products since 2009 when she fell into it by accident. Once she made her first batch of soap she found she couldn’t stop. She was fascinated by the science of soap making, but it was the design possibilities that captured her love for soap making. Jennifer continues to study her craft and experiment with new designs. Her goal is to always make a great bar of soap that is also visually fun. Jennifer has her CP/HP Master Soap Making certification as well as her Teacher Certification offered through the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild. She has been teaching soap since 2013.
Introduction to Cold Process Soap Making - Valentine Edition!
This class will introduce you to the basics of making cold process soap. Jennifer will provide fun Valentine Themed fragrances and embeds for the students to add a little extra “bling” to their soaps!
Cold process soaps are created by blending oils (or fat) with a lye mixture. In turn the soap saponifies over the next twenty-four hours turning the lye-oil mixture into a solid bar of soap! The class will cover the following:
- Brief history and basic chemistry of soap making
• Necessary materials, supplies and equipment
• Safety considerations when working with sodium hydroxide
• Taking accurate measurements & proper mixing temperatures
• Coloring your soap (micas, herbs, spices & clays)
• Scenting your soap (fragrance oils versus essential oils)
• Preparing your molds and molding options
• Insulating, cutting, curing and storing your finished soap
Each student will make their own 1lb batch of soap that they will get to take home with them (the mold will be theirs to keep as well so they can make future batches of soap). Students will also leave with very thorough handouts and enough information to make awesome vegetable-based natural soap from scratch on their own as well as a full-sized bar of soap to enjoy. This class uses only vegetable based ingredients.
